From Accounting to Administration: Embracing the Unforeseen Path

Forji Glory Kifie, my name, and this is the story of how my father’s insistence on pursuing accounting transformed my life. Little did I know that this seemingly unwanted detour would lead me to discover my true passion in the world of administration. A Reluctant Beginning
It all began on a fateful day when my father woke up and insisted that I pursue a career in Computerized Accounting. The thought of numbers and mathematics sent shivers down my spine. However, being a dutiful child, I couldn’t say no to my father’s wishes. With a mix of trepidation and determination, I embarked on this unfamiliar path at GCTC (Giddis Computer Training Center).
Discovering Unexpected Love
At the beginning, I saw accounting as a means to fulfill my late father’s will. But as I delved deeper into the subject, something unexpected happened – I fell in love with it. The rigorous training at GCTC challenged me to grow and pushed me beyond my limits. The satisfaction of solving complex problems and the thrill of balancing financial statements became my motivation. By the end of the training, I had not only met the expectations set by my father but exceeded them.
Triumphs and Recognition
During my internship at the Kikaikelaki Cooperative Credit Union, I had the opportunity to apply my newfound accounting skills in a real-world setting. It was an exhilarating experience that solidified my passion for the field. As a testament to my dedication and hard work, I was honored with the prestigious title of Ambassador of the 8th Batch of GCTC during my graduation. This recognition filled me with immense gratitude and a sense of accomplishment.
Beyond Accounting
Life had more surprises in store for me. I secured a position as an accountant at AFF-EDNET (African Financial Educational Network). However, my role went beyond number-crunching. Thanks to the ethics and leadership skills I acquired at GCTC, I also found myself teaching basic computer classes to newcomers in the company. It was a role that allowed me to share my knowledge and make a difference in the lives of others.
The Entrepreneurial Spirit
As time went on, I realized that my journey wasn’t confined to the realm of accounting alone. Empowered by the management skills acquired at GCTC, I decided to venture into entrepreneurship. Today, I am the proud owner of a thriving business that provides an environment for relaxation, swimming, and various other activities. The skills I gained at GCTC were instrumental in managing my business effectively and ensuring its success.

Looking back, I realize that my journey from Accounting to Administration was not a mistake but a blessing in disguise.
